Bishop Gilpin Primary School, Wimbledon

  • This mosaic was made by the Year 5 pupils as a special tribute to the school's head teacher who retired after 15 years as head there. It will go on permanent display in the school library.
  • The mosaic features the head teacher standing at his lectern in assembly adjacent to the many happy children's faces, all made from clay.
  • Children also decorated the 68 border tiles which frame the mosaic.  These depict things to do with the head teacher's four favourite interests - Gardening, France, Religion and Music.
  • The tiles (& faces) were painted with oxides after bisque firing to bring out the detail in their drawing and mark making.
